As much as we like to be of service to others, the real service is none other than providing service to ourselves.
If whatever we do is moving us towards self-destruction, then it is best for us to move in the opposite direction. Obviously, this is true in the case of the habits we acquired.
That doesn't mean we have to seek comfort all the time. Prolong comfort leads to complacency. Complacency leads to inertia. Where else our basis of living is to move. The very reason why we have big brains is that we evolved into becoming long-distance runners. Should our ancestors remained as tree-dwellers, our brain will not evolve much.
Over the last million years of evolution, our brain underwent a considerable increase in size and complexity, resulting in the exceptional cognitive abilities of the human species. This brain enlargement is largely due to an increase in the number of neurons in the cerebral cortex, the outer part of the brain.
In this case, moving or to be more precise, long-distance running resulted in neuroplasticity and neurogenesis.
Therefore the foundation of a man fully functioning is to run.
It could be moving in general. However, our body was designed for long-distance running.
I'm not saying this to address the masses. I am putting forward this idea so that I will continue to run for the rest of my life.
This is the first assertion.
-----------------------------------------------------
The second assertion is to stop looking outward for personal gratification. Focus on delighting the Universe Within.
Do not have high expectations of others. That only leads to disappointment. Only you can do you. So if you want the best for yourself, then serve no other.
Yes, along the way you can offer your lance for hire. However, following the footsteps of the greatest swordsman of all time, Miyamoto Musashi, the best reward is seclusion.
That's because we are each a Superverse in Motion. When we die, we will remain Autonomous. Each of us is our own god. Since all matters are intelligent and all matters are gods, every cell and microbe are their own universes.
Our consciousness governs these universes. Sure, we will interact with other Superverses. However, by being Autonomous, each of us will pursue our own Personal Bliss.
Take the example of where I am at right now. Surely I interact with the External Universe. However, my Personal Bliss is still about delighting my Universe Within.
People often forget, the purpose of cooperation between species is to ensure safety in numbers. However, if the premise is no longer true, then the best model is to be in isolation. That is why top predators are solitary creatures. For them, there is no need for cooperation to survive.
-------------------------------------------------------
The third assertion is the very reason why we continue to thrive. That is the belief that we are doing something right. This is the foundation of happiness for each of us. As long as we believe we are right, we will keep moving. It is when we stop believing that we abandon hope.
So belief is necessary for survival as had been proven by Viktor Frankl and many survivors of life's tragedies.
For one, I know I am a fighter. I managed to quit the 3 Cs, ran a marathon, wrote a book, endured the betrayal of false friends and of all calamities, battled Bipolar Disorder.
All because I am a Believer. Granted, what I believe may not all be true. However, whatever I believe in leads me to where I am now. At this point, what I believe in made me successful.
I am finally the right man for the right time. My time is now. I had arrived. I had sorted my mess 3 years ago. Now is to maintain a steady course towards my final destination.
As inscribed on Sailbad the Sinner's sail, "Everything is going smoothly."
Thus from here on, I should [I should] avoid stupid mistakes and stay on course by listening to my kigatsuku.
------------------------------------------
In summary:
- Keep on running
- Be in Isolation
- Believe in being right
I think if I stick to these 3 assertions, I don't need much to be happy. It is when you become jaded by the External Universe that you start to compare with others. As long as I don't compare my life to the Joneses and live in gratitude, I can say that I live a very fulfilling life.
How many can buy what their hearts desire with just a monthly allowance coming f[or] (from) their children?
I am indeed a very lucky guy.
I guess my greatest gift is my ability to sit down for hours and simply write. That is truly my greatest asset. It doesn't cost me anything at all.
Other than that, I have the right combination. Not just one or two combinations, ALL my combinations are perfect. I can say I am a near-perfect being with what I have now.
As long as I don't abuse my body and I exercise, I am on the road to Health and Happiness.
That's what I want really. A simple formula for a successful living. Already I know that to be happy is to be small and simple. Now I know that to be truly happy is to have total control of my time.
Definitely, I will not trade my freedom for more money. Sure I need money. However, as long as I am small and simple, I can manage with the little that I have.
The key to happiness is to live on cash. I learned this when I finished paying all my debts. What a world of difference.
Now I can even afford to be generous. I don't need to lavish.
Certainly, I don't need to spend a lot of money to be happy. If I don't buy fancy food, I save a lot!
Now I am also cutting down on other things that cost me money. I will be cutting down on books, clothing, perfumes, and gifts.
